HOW IT HAPPENED

Back-to-back goals in the opening minutes to Williamstown’s Willie Wheeler set the tone for the visitors , who consigned Werribee to yet another poor start. Both sides traded goals regularly throughout the fast-paced clash in bitterly cold conditions at Chirnside Park. From 24 points down at the final change, Werribee mounted an inspired comeback, closing the gap to just two points in the dying minutes, but it wasn’t enough, as Willy held firm for an eight-point triumph. Matt Munro booted five goals in a masterful display, while leaders Michael Barlow, Matt Hanson and Daniel Nielson were other strong performers.
