FIA conducts Rally Safety Delegate training for Asia-Pacific region
Third edition of training programme held at Madras International Circuit
As part of the FIA’s ongoing commitment to rally safety, the latest in a series of regional Rally Safety Delegate training events has taken place at the Madras International Circuit in India from 09-10 January.
There were 18 Rally Safety Delegates from seven National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) in the Asia-Pacific region in attendance to undertake the training programme, which is supported by the FIA Foundation’s Motor Sport Safety Grant.
The event was hosted by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and the Madras Motor Sports Club, and it was the first time such a training programme has happened in India, following two previous in-person seminars in Prague in 2024 and the FIA’s Centre of Excellence in Valleiry, France, in 2023.
This Asia-Pacific edition of the Rally Safety Delegate training was attended by delegates from the following ASNs:
- India (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India)
- Sri Lanka (Ceylon Motor Sports Club)
- Nepal (Nepal Automobile Sports Association)
- Singapore (Motor Sports Singapore)
- Indonesia (Ikatan Motor Indonesia)
- Thailand (The Royal Automobile Association of Thailand)
The FIA Delegate of the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship also joined the two-day event from Australia.
The training included detailed workshops, team-building, interactive seminars and case studies presented by Nicolas Klinger, FIA WRC Safety Delegate and President of the Closed Road Commission, who said:
“The regional training programme is a really fantastic way for us to directly reach our ASNs around the world. There really is no substitute for coming together face-to-face to share our ideas and experiences and then put them into practice. Rallying in the Asia-Pacific region is very strong, from grassroots up to the regional level, and as it continues to grow it is important to reinforce our global safety messaging and ensure that local organisers are running rallies using best practices. We are really thankful to all the ASN representatives who came together in India, and I hope to see many more of them during the FIA Safety Week in February.”
Govinda Bhattarai, who attended from the Nepal Automobile Association, commented: “The training was incredibly valuable, providing me with a fresh perspective on rally safety. By emphasising hands-on experience and fostering discussions among other ASNs, we were able to learn in a real-world setting and easily share best practices across our regions. I highly recommend this training to any ASN member looking to elevate their safety protocols.
Loqy Siregar of Ikatan Motor Indonesia added: “The training has been incredibly beneficial, providing hands-on experience in rally safety. Learning alongside various ASNs from the region has allowed us to share best practices and improve safety standards in our respective areas. I would highly recommend this training to any ASN looking to enhance their safety protocols.”
