EHRC – Érdi Jr makes it a hat-trick of home FIA European Historic wins

Tibor Érdi Jr made it four different winners from the opening four rounds of the 2024 FIA European Historic Rally Championship after he claimed a hat-trick of Mecsek Rallye victories today (Saturday).

The home hero led the Tarmac event from start to finish in the Ford Sierra Cosworth 4×4 he shared with co-driver István Kerék, overcoming a handful of mechanical issues in the process and adding the Category 4 triumph to his list of achievements.

Italian pair “Zippo” and Nicola Arena finished second and won Category 3 in their Audi Quattro after they were slowed through SS6 with a broken front-left driveshaft before turbo failure struck nearing the finish.

Flexifly Rally Team’s Ernie Graham and co-driving daughter Anna Graham completed the podium in their BMW M3, which was slowed by an overheating issue in the closing stages.

Having been hampered by a water leak, Frenchman Pascal Eouzan finished fourth in his M3 with Hungary’s Péter Magoss (Subaru Legacy 2.0 4WD Turbo) delayed by a powersteering issue.

Hungarian László Mekler won Category 2 and claimed FIA EHRC 1600cc Trophy honours in sixth aboard his Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA as James Potter triumphed in Category 1 in his Ford Escort Twin Cam, one place ahead of Antonio Parisi (Porsche 911 S).

Maciej Lubiak was fifth after leg one but fell to ninth at the finish after gearbox issues struck his Porsche 911 Carrera SC.

Piotr Gadomski (Toyota Corolla AE82) completed the top 10 and took the FIA EHRC Front Wheel Drive Trophy win for the second event running.

Jesus Villarroel (Porsche 911 S), Carlo Fiorito (BMW 2002 ti) and Natale Mirabile (Fiat Ritmo Abarth 130 TC) rounded out the finishers.

Austrian Georg Reitsperger reached the overnight halt on Friday in a strong third but retired his Ford Sierra Cosworth 4×4 with engine issues.

János Dunavölgyi was a non-finisher after overheating problems contributed to his Lada 2108 Samara stopping.

Historic Rallye Weiz in Austria hosts round five of the 2024 FIA EHRC season from July 11-13.
