Spa Grand Prix SA receives Three-Star FIA Environmental Accreditation

On the eve of the 2023 FIA Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, Spa Grand Prix SA is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Three-Star Environmental Accreditation by the FIA.

Following on from its ISO 20121 certification, this certification is further recognition of Spa Grand Prix’s commitment to actively reducing its environmental impact, and its determination to contribute to a positive change in motorsport towards a more sustainable future.

The environmental certification of the FIA Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix is fully in line with Formula 1®’s environmental sustainability plan, which aims to enable the championship to reduce its carbon footprint and become carbon neutral by 2030.

As part of its environmental policy, Spa Grand Prix SA is committed to reducing single-use consumption, sorting and managing waste, and reducing the environmental impact of the event. Spa Grand Prix favors the use of biofuel-based energy sources, sustainable materials and the elimination of single-use plastics.

Beyond the environmental aspect, Spa Grand Prix SA also demonstrates its commitment to social responsibility.

Vanessa MAES (Spa Grand Prix CEO): “Obtaining the FIA’s highest environmental certification is the culmination of several months’ work by the whole team. It proves our commitment to these values, which we believe are essential to the development of our company. Our policy of continuous improvement is bearing fruit.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, said:  “It is very important that the entire motor sport ecosystem is committed to environmental sustainability, and the FIA Three-Star Accreditation for such a historic racing venue is a great sign that our sport is moving forward in the right direction. All stakeholders have a great responsibility to keep pushing and improving in our environmental practices – as organisers, competitors, venues and fans – and I congratulate Spa Grand Prix SA for their continued work towards a better future for us all.”
