Building for the Future: FIA Chief Development Officer Builds Connections with China

FIA Chief Development Officer Habib Turki has been actively promoting the Federation’s work in China, as part of its outreach into the region. During October and November, he attended two major events highlighting China’s strategic significance in the global mobility agenda.

The World Intelligent Connected Vehicle (WICV) summit in Beijing and the China Automobile Standards Internationalisation Center Forum in Geneva represented a key opportunity for the FIA to meet with stakeholders from one of the world’s biggest mobility markets, and showcase its vision for a safe, sustainable and inclusive mobility transition.

 At the World Intelligent Connected Vehicle (WICV) summit, Habib joined an International Policy Roundtable to discuss policies for the development of Intelligent Connected Vehicles with industry leaders. The panel emphasised the fact that the future of the industry depends on a harmonised legal framework, enabling collaboration between consumers, OEMs and regulators to ensure safety, accessibility and long-term growth. Habib also attended other sessions on ICVs, had the chance to exchange with several OEMs representative and saluted the strategic work of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe WP.29 in this area.

The Forum hosted by the China Automobile Standards internationalisation Centre also looked at the future of mobility with a focus on connectivity, automation, and how unified global standards can drive innovation forward. 

At the Forum, Habib joined several representatives — including from the Embassy of China, CATARC Europe Testing and Certification GmbH, NIO, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), CCPIT Beijing Business Information Center, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — and delivered a keynote in which he highlighted the importance of global cooperation in building a smarter and greener tomorrow for mobility.

These meetings were part of the continued efforts to strengthen of the FIA’s relationship with China in 2024. Earlier this year, Habib met with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and held productive talks with China’s mission to the EU.
