MIT Senseable Forum: FIA presents partnership project in Boston

Senior Sustainability Manager Asuka Ito attended the MIT Senseable Forum on Future Cities in Boston this week.

The conference focused on the ways that cities can bring us together, and serve as catalysts for innovation and social advancement.

Asuka presented the FIA’s collaboration with MIT Senseable City Lab — which seeks to study and improve mobility patterns around mega-events.

She explained that the US Grand Prix has been selected as a case study for the programme and that, as part of the project, researchers have collected and analysed data on AirBnB and rideshare usage, overall concentration of traffic, and event attendance over time in order to provide recommendations on sustainability and mobility improvements.

Asuka said: “We are proud to collaborate with the MIT Senseable City Lab on this essential project. As the governing body of motorsport and the federation of the world’s leading Mobility Organisations, we are uniquely placed to understand the mobility challenges raised by major sports events, and to drive positive, sustainable change. We look forward to effecting the next steps alongside our partners.”

The intervention comes in the same week that the FIA is attending COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. As part of the conference, FIA Director of Sustainability and D&I Sara Mariani presented the FIA’s vision for greener urban mobility and sport as a driver for climate action, and promoted a dedicated Smart Driving Challenge.
