World RX: 2024 champion to be crowned in Türkiye

Johan Kristoffersson is favourite to win an incredible seventh FIA World Rallycross Championship title as the 2024 season concludes with a double header race meeting at Istanbul Park this weekend (9-10 November).

The Swedish ace arrives at the World RX of Türkiye with a healthy 46-point lead, after winning five of the eight World RX races held so far this year in his KMS – HORSE Powertrain-prepared Volkswagen Polo KMS 601 RX.

The World RX’s new ‘Battle of Technologies’ has ensured Kristoffersson hasn’t had it all his own way in his sustainably-fuelled combustion engined car, as Niclas Grönholm (CE Dealer Team PWR RX1e) and Hansen World RX Team brothers Timmy and Kevin Hansen (Peugeot 208 RX1e) have each won a race in their all-electric racers.

Indeed, Kevin is currently second in the points standings, while Timmy scored victory the last time World RX visited Türkiye in 2015.

There will be other drivers aiming to end the season on a high, most notably Ole Christian Veiby (Polo KMS 601 RX) and Klara Andersson (PWR RX1e) who have come tantalisingly close to scoring their first World RX race victory this year.

The newly-crowned FIA European rallycross champion Patrick O’Donovan will contest the event in his Team RX Racing Peugeot 208 WRX. The talented 20-year old driver, who also clinched a third British Rallycross Championship title this year, is no stranger to World RX, having finished third in last year’s final round in Hong Kong.

The 2024 French rallycross champion Steven Bossard, who won the Supercar title in style after a decade-long absence from the grid, will make his World RX debut in a Hyundai i20, alongside his PGRX team-mate and French vice-champion Juha Rytkönen.
