Matt Campbell aboard the #5 Porsche Penske Motorsport-entered 963 secured his second pole position of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship season, topping the Hyperpole session ahead of tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
Antonio Fuoco in the #50 Ferrari 499P was initially on the provisional pole, setting his best time of 2m02.600s, 0.5s ahead of Campbell’s best effort before the car was disqualified due to being below the minimum weight limit.
The #2 Cadillac Racing took the American manufacturer’s best-ever FIA WEC grid slot, owing to Alex Lynn setting his best lap of 2m03.115s, which turned out to be the session’s second-best time.
#99 Proton Competition Porsche qualified by Julien Andlauer will start on row two of the grid as the Frenchmen took third place with a 2m03.314s lap to be the best-placed privateer Porsche 963.
Callum IIlott in the #12 Hertz Team JOTA took fourth ahead of the championship-leading #6 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar driven by Kévin Estre.
BRILLIANT BOVY ON POLE ON HOME SOIL
#85 Iron Dames Lamborghini Huracan took a brilliant pole position as Sarah Bovy topped both qualifying and Hyperpole sessions.
The local ace takes her first FIA WEC pole at her home track after peaking on the best lap of 2m20.775s in what was also her first pole position since last year’s 8 Hours of Bahrain.
Bovy’s time was 0.337s quicker than the #95 United Autosports McLaren driven by Joshua Caygill in the British team’s best qualifying performance of the 2024 season to date.
#46 Team WRT BMW M4 LMGT3 placed third with the 2023 polesitter Ahmed Al Harthy setting his best of 2m21.138s, just 0.046s off the McLaren.
Championship leader Aliaksandr Malykhin in the PureRxcing Porsche 911 GT R suffered a large accident on top of Raidillon after losing his car on the crest of a hill after Eau Rouge. The Imola pole-setter emerged uninjured as the LMGT3 Hyperpole session was red-flagged.
Tomorrow’s TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will commence at 13:00 local time.
