ETRC: Kiss scores hat-trick at Zolder
Norbert Kiss started his Goodyear FIA European Track Racing Championship weekend at Zolder with retirement in Race 1, but bounced back by winning the remaining three races of the Belgian event
It was business as usual for the championship-leading Hungarian, who kicked off his weekend by taking yet another pole position. Came Race 1 and Kiss settled into the lead once the action got underway. However, three laps into the race his turbo failed. Second-best in the points standings, Jochen Hahn capitalised on Kiss’ bad luck and went on to take his second victory of the season.
Kiss then bounced back and performed in dominant fashion in the remainder of the event, winning all three remaining races, however, it was Hahn, who gathered the biggest points tally of any driver in Belgium, scoring a total of 48 points to Kiss’ 40.
Hahn also strengthened himself in second place overall, scoring 13 points more than Sascha Lenz and 15 points more than Antonio Albacete.
José Eduardo Rodrigues was the standout performer of the weekend, having by far his best event of the season. The Portuguese racer finished third in the opening and the final races of the weekend and amassed a total of 32 points, which is his season-best.
Next up is the penultimate round of the season held at Le Mans Bugatti Circuit from 23 September, with the finale taking place at Circuito del Jarama the week after.
