TOURING Y AUTOMÓVIL CLUB DE COLOMBIA ORGANISES SUCCESSFUL MOBILITY WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

With the support of the Mapfre Foundation, FIA Member Club the Touring y Automóvil Club de Colombia organised Mobility Workshops at the national level to raise awareness among young people (from kindergarten to grade 11) about Safe, Healthy and Sustainable Mobility. 80,746 children and adolescents from 120 public and private educational institutions took part in the workshop from June to November 2022.

The project was carried out in different localities of the city of Bogotá and its surroundings such as: Soacha, Cota, Calera, Mosquera, Subachoque, Chía, Zipaquirá, Sopo, Madrid and Funza. In September, workshops were also held in the cities of Barranquilla, Medellín, Cartagena, Ibagué and Cali, in kindergartens, foundations, public and private educational institutions, mostly in city centres and in some rural areas.

The children and adolescents participating in the workshops showed great interest in the Mobility subject and appreciated the methodology applied, which was both pedagogical and playful.

Mobility is a relevant topic for them as it contributes to the cross-cutting school mobility projects that they implement in their institutions and as it also reinforces the citizenship skills they must acquire, learn and put into practice from their early childhood and throughout their lives.

A drawing contest was organised at the end of the workshops.  Students from 2^nd to 11^th grade voluntarily drew a picture illustrating Safe, Healthy and Sustainable Mobility. From each educational institution, one primary school student and one secondary school student were selected to represent their institution. At the end of the year, the finalists competed at the national level and four of them won a tablet.

On 29 November 2022, the directors of the Mapfre Foundation in Colombia and directors of the Touring y Automóvil Club de Colombia presented the prizes to the winning children at a very emotional event during which the children expressed their gratitude to the programme.

“The training was very timely, we are carrying out one of these projects in the school as a cross-cutting project and we had already made some progress, so it was perfect for us. The trainer is an extremely charismatic person, she manages the subject extremely well. She got through to the children very easily, they were very motivated. From what they learned there, we have managed to do other little things, and they are already thinking about training the little ones in charge of mobility in the school as a result of what they learned!“, stated a representative from Colegio Caracolí located in Ibagué.
