Berlin E-Prix opens the door to FIA Girls on Track

The second FIA Girls on Track event of 2022 took place at the Berlin E-Prix last Friday (May 13), ahead of the race weekend, welcoming 100 young women to experience the exciting world of motor sport and the diverse range of career opportunities.

The FIA Girls on Track programme, aims to increase the participation of women in motorsport both on and off track by introducing them to the complex industry of motorsport through workshops and activities.

The 100 participants in Berlin had the chance to discover the expansive career opportunities of motor sport in a free, educational, engaging, and positive manner.

The participants engaged in a total of nine activities throughout the day, with female experts working in the industry and dedicated workshops to our global partners: DHL and ABB.

For example, the young women were able to experiment Electric Karting, a first glimpse of the virtual world behind the wheel of a simulator, learning essential driving techniques along the way. Environmental activities raised their awareness about the leadership of Motor sport, in particular Formula E, in sustainable innovation. In the career tent, they had the honor to meet Michaela Watts (Mercedes CFO), Sarah Morrow (Commercial Project Manager at Jaguar Racing) and Siobhan Filsell (Senior Communications Manager at Andretti Autosport) a former Girls on track participant who took time to present and discuss their backgrounds, experiences and gave tips to enter motor sport.  Elisa Sacchini, FIA Sporting coordinator for Formula E & ENEC, took them on a special tour of the Race Control. They also explored the Formula E pit lane and paddock with tours around the FIA Technical Garage presented by Alessandra Ciliberti FIA Technical Manager for Formula E and several racing teams such as: Mercedes, Jaguar, Porsche Dragon and many more.

The intense day finished with the shakedown and the participants had the chance to come back on Saturday and Sunday to watch the races. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has been hosting the FIA Girls on Track events since the programme’s inception, inviting these girls and young women since 2019 during racing weekends, attracting almost 2,000 participants in total. The collaboration between the FIA and Formula E on FIA Girls on Track has been extended until 2026 with four events per season.

The FIA Girls on Track event will take place in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time in Jakarta on June 3rd 2022.
