Victoria name Sheffield Shield and Second XI squads
Victoria has named their Marsh Sheffield Shield and Toyota Second XI squads for the resumption of the domestic season.
The Victorians remain undefeated this Marsh Sheffield Shield season after starting with two wins and a draw against NSW.
Victoria’s Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup fixtures were released earlier today. Victoria re-start their season against South Australia on Wednesday (Feb 9) at the Adelaide Oval.
Will Pucovski returns to the Victorian squad for the first time since scoring back-to-back double centuries in November 2020.
Henry Thornton has been named in the Victorian Sheffield Shield squad for the first time, the right-arm fast bowler has been training with Victoria since relocating from New South Wales last season.
Thornton impressed with 13 wickets in seven matches for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League and represented the Victorian Second XI earlier this season.
Cricket Victoria Chair of Selectors Andrew Lynch said:
“We’re pleased to have Will back in the Shield squad after his return to Victorian Premier Cricket last month, he’s ticked all the required boxes and is looking forward to representing Victoria again,” Lynch said.
“Henry Thornton also comes into the squad after impressing for both St Kilda in Victorian Premier Cricket and the Adelaide Strikers in the BBL. Henry has been around the Victorian group for a while now and has been able to learn a lot from our senior fast bowlers”.
James Pattinson has been named to play Victorian Premier Cricket on Saturday as he recovers from a minor injury picked up during the BBL.
Cameron White will coach the Second XI side as they take on ACT/New South Wales Country in Albury. Mackenzie Harvey will again captain the side.
