Two arrested after ramming police cars in Airport West
A police officer has been injured and a man and woman are in custody following a dynamic arrest in Airport West today.
The pair were arrested in a Louis Street carpark after three police cars were rammed by an allegedly stolen car on Thursday, 20 January shortly before midday.
The arrests, after police were called to a suspicious vehicle in the carpark, form part of Operation Hyperion and come after a stolen 4-wheel drive and a stolen white van were used in smash-grab burglaries at Glenroy and Fawkner on Wednesday, 19 January.
It is also believed the pair were involved in a smash-grab burglary at a computer store in Millers Road in Altona North about 2am today.
A police officer has been injured and three police cars damaged after the offenders continued to ram the police vehicles as officers moved in to make their arrests.
The man has been taken to hospital with minor injuries and the woman is assisting police with their enquiries.
A detective acting sergeant was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.
The 4-wheel drive and van, allegedly used in yesterday’s ram-raids, were recovered by police in Fawkner and Deer Park today.
