Man arrested after stolen car breaks down

Police have arrested a man after the stolen vehicle he was driving broke down on the West Gate Freeway in Port Melbourne about 8.10am Wednesday morning.

The blue Toyota sedan first came to police attention about 7.35am Wednesday, after it was allegedly involved in an attempted robbery on Dunnings Road in Point Cook.

Police have been told the vehicle sped off after its driver threatened a male jogger whilst making a demand for his phone, before making its way on to the West Gate Freeway.

Members from the Dog Squad arrested the 19-year-old driver after the vehicle came to a standstill on the freeway about 8.10am.

The Caroline Springs man is now assisting police with their enquiries.

Police are also investigating a possible link to an aggravated burglary on Isham Street in Point Cook about 7.25am that day.
