Victorian players ready for revised domestic schedule
Victoria will head to Sydney next week for their first Marsh Sheffield Shield clash of the season against New South Wales at Drummoyne Oval.
In a revised schedule issued by Cricket Australia today, the Victorians will play in Sydney from October 27-30 and then return to Melbourne for a Marsh Sheffield Shield clash at the MCG against New South Wales from November 5-8.
The Victorians will then face New South Wales in a day/night Marsh One Day Cup fixture at the MCG on November 12.
Cricket Victoria is working with the Melbourne Cricket Club on the development of COVID Safe plans for these matches. Public health orders require these plans to be in place before crowds can be considered.
Cricket Victoria’s General Manager – Cricket Shaun Graf welcomed confirmation of the fixture.
“I’d like to thank the Victorian and New South Wales Governments along with Cricket Australia for their support to get these matches scheduled and enabling our players to compete in what would normally be the busiest part of their year,” Graf said.
“Extensive work behind the scenes from Peter Roach and his Cricket Operations team at Cricket Australia has helped to produce this schedule. The health and wellbeing of our players, support staff and the community is always our first priority and it is pleasing that the changes to some public health restrictions has paved the way to get our season underway.”
Victorian Men’s Head Coach Chris Rogers said he was grateful for the work that had gone into the fixture.
“As you might imagine, the players are very excited to get out on the field and compete after a long winter. We’re very grateful to our government that we’ve been able to continue training through lockdown, I know captain Peter Handscomb and the whole squad are looking forward to arriving in Sydney and getting our season up and running,” Rogers added.
