Major contract awarded for new sporting fields in Point Cook
Wyndham City Council last night awarded a $14.9 million contract to begin work on new sporting fields in Point Cook.
Major earthworks are expected to begin next month on sporting facilities at two locations including Bensonhurst Parade and Brookdale Road Reserve in Point Cook.
The projects involve earth works, automated irrigation systems using recycled water,
fencing, the construction of sports fields, energy efficient LED sportsground lighting and hard and soft landscaping to both reserves.
The contract was awarded to Joslyn Group Pty Ltd.
The sports fields at Bensonhurst Reserve will accommodate one senior cricket oval and four soccer fields with additional works including the construction of tennis and multi-use courts. The sports fields at Brookdale Road Reserve will include specialist baseball infrastructure with additional works including a car park and play space.
Wyndham Mayor Cr Adele Hegedich said: “We’re getting on with the job of providing first class sporting facilities for our growing population.”
“As anyone who lives in Point Cook knows, the booming population in this area means we’re constantly working to provide more sporting facilities for local families.”
“Covid and restrictions have put an even greater spotlight on the importance of local sport. As restrictions ease with increased vaccinations, these sporting facilities will play an integral part in the lives of many families moving forward.”
Wyndham City Deputy Mayor and Active City portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said: “Wyndham City is committed to improving the sports and recreational assets across the municipality.”
“Once complete, these major facilities will be capable of hosting junior and senior levels of competition and training for local sporting associations, clubs and schools.”
Work on the two reserves is expected to take 12 months.
