Planning Underway For New Active Open Space In Truganina

Wyndham City has commenced planning for a new active open space reserve in Truganina and is asking residents to provide feedback and suggestions on plans for the reserve.

Fortitude Drive Reserve has been identified in the Wyndham Sports Strategy as the future home of Wyndham’s second Athletics facility along with accommodating for the future growth of field hockey.

Over the next four months, Wyndham City’s Sport and Recreation team will be engaging and consulting with the community to ensure their needs, ideas and concerns are reflected in the plans.

Active City portfolio holder Councillor Peter Maynard said: “As we build on our 2040 vision we are absolutely thrilled to see the proposal of new active spaces in Wyndham, particularly in such a growth corridor that is Truganina.”

Fortitude Drive Reserve will also feature areas for active and passive activities such as barbeques and picnic areas, walking trails and a playground. The site is located close to a future major town centre and train station, and adjacent to a future secondary college making it an ideal central location to cater for the growing demand of athletics and hockey in Wyndham.

“We’re thrilled to be able to deliver on the demand that is increasing for field hockey and athletics and know that as our community grows, the uptake in athletics and hockey as a sport will grow too, particularly with the Tokyo Olympics just around the corner,” Cr Maynard said.

“But we know that not everyone wants to participate in organised sport, so that’s why we’re asking residents who prefer other ways of being active what they’d like to see included in this space, so this reserve can be attractive and inviting for everyone.”

“These facilities will be a great social hub for the community and furthermore a great active space that will help residents stay fit and healthy both physically and mentally. We know how important that is for all of our residents.”
