Cameron’s Peugeot on the mend after Sydney incident
Aaron Cameron’s damaged Peugeot 308 TCR is on the mend and will be repaired in time for the next round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.
Cameron’s Valvoline-backed Peugeot was involved in an incident on the run into Turn 2 during the third and final race at Sydney Motorsport Park recently. The Garry Rogers Motorsport-prepared entry was pitched into the wall at high speed after contact with the cars of Luke King and Lee Holdsworth.
While the damage was significant, the GRM squad has assessed and stripped the damaged Peugeot and will soon fit two new front rails to the car, courtesy of a ‘donor’ Peugeot 308 road car.
In fact, it is the same donor car that was used to repair the rear end of Jason Bargwanna’s Burson Auto Parts-supported Peugeot after its Symmons Plains incident.
Team manager Stefan Millard says the repair of Cameron’s car is coming together nicely.
“The actual repair is simple enough, but it’s not something you can do easily at the track, so we were fortunate that that happened in Race 3,” Millard said.
“The guys have gone through all of the auxiliary bolt on bits, figured out what’s damaged and what needs replacing.
“It takes a few days to rip apart the race car and the road car, and it will probably spend a week in the fabrication shop, and probably another week getting put back together.
“We have a few weeks before our next round, so time is on our side.”
After failing to score points in the last race at Sydney Motorsport Park, Cameron dropped to fifth in the standings amid a tight championship battle that sees the drivers ranked second through to eighth separated by just 44 points.
