Works Begin On New Integrated Family Centres

Two new state-of-the-art family centres in Truganina South East and Tarneit North will commence constrution works next week, following the official turning of the sod this Friday.

The Truganina South East Integrated Family Centre and the Tarneit North Integrated Family Centre, both interim named, are being delivered as part of larger community precinct and sporting masterplans for the growing suburbs.

The Truganina South East Integrated Family Centre is being delivered as part of Wyndham City Council’s $24.5 million Truganina South East Community Precinct Masterplan, which includes sports fields, pavilion, tennis courts and open space.

The centre in Truganina will be located on Alcock Road next to Garrang Wilam Primary School, and will provide early education and care services, Kindergarten, Maternal and Child Health services and specialist support services for children.

The Tarneit North Integrated Family Centre will be located on Polly Parade in Tarneit, and will provide Kindergarten, Maternal and Child Health services and other allied services, and community spaces.

The centre in Tarneit is part of Wyndham City’s $26.4 million Tarneit North Community Precinct Master Plan implementation project. Works on both centres are expected to be complete by January 2022.

City Design and Liveability Portfolio Holder, Cr Josh Gilligan, said the centres will provide vital infrastructure for the growing suburbs.

“Providing locally-based services supports a closer, more connected community,” Cr Gilligan said.

“The new centres will enable residents to access all the services without having to travel, as well as generating new employment opportunities for locals.”

“The centres are part of bigger projects which will deliver sports fields and sports pavilions to the area.”

In December 2020, it was announced that Commercial Industrial Construction Group Pty Ltd was the successful bidder for a combined masterplan delivery contract. At the time, Wyndham City Mayor Adele Hegedich said “These projects will deliver sports fields, sports pavilions and family centres that will provide kindergarten, maternal child health and associated services for people moving to these growing areas.”

“This contract includes the full delivery of the Truganina South East Masterplan, and the family centre, playground and car park at Tarneit North.”

“The remainder of the Tarneit North Masterplan will be delivered at a later date,” Cr Hegedich said.

Wyndham City received a number of State Government grants for the two projects, including a $2.5 million Growing Suburbs Fund grant and a $2.5 million Building Blocks grant for stage one of the Tarneit North community precinct.

A $3 million Growing Suburbs Fund grant was provided towards the Truganina South East community precinct, and $1.6 million in Children’s Facilities Capital Program funding towards the Truganina South East Integrated Family Centre was also received.
