TAC Unity Cup Returns for 2021
March will see over 600 new footballers take to the football field with the return of the TAC Unity Cup Hubs and TAC Unity Cup Gala Day.
The program has been running for 14 years with the aim to break down cultural barriers amidst the joy of learning Australia’s national game.
It encourages those from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds, aged between 12 – 17, who are new to football or not currently engaged to participate in a series of clinics over six weeks. This culminates in the TAC Unity Cup on the 27th of March at Royal Park North, Parkville.
Participants will learn AFL9’s football, have opportunities to attend professional development sessions and learn more about road safety in Victoria, all in a COVID Safe environment.
Thanks to TAC, participants will have access to the L2P program – designed to assist learner drivers who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary license. The L2P Program is funded by the TAC and other groups, managed by the Department of Transport and delivered by either local councils or not-for-profit community agencies. The program assists learners between 16-21 years of age, who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle, to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary license.
AFL Victoria’s Schools and Diversity Manager, Nish Moses, highlighted how the Unity Cup has evolved and excitement for the 2021 return. “The TAC Unity Cup Gala Day started in 2008 with four teams. This year we are expecting over 80 teams to be involved, it is an amazing way to celebrate diversity, introduce new players to our sport and connect them with local community clubs”.
“Having the support of our partners, the TAC as well as Essendon Football Club, Vic Health and the AFP is integral to the opportunities we are able to provide to the participants and their commitment to growing our game is so valued.”
The TAC Unity Hubs will run weekly throughout March across 7 locations around Victoria. See below.
