Chaz Mostert claims maiden TCR Australia pole position

Chaz Mostert has led an Audi RS3 one-two in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series Astrontech qualifying at Phillip Island.

Mostert claimed his maiden pole position and headed an all-Audi front row for Race 1 at the Victorian circuit, with Luke King taking second place on the grid.

Lee Holdsworth set a flying early benchmark of 1:36.150s to lead King but their efforts did not stand for long.

Mostert laid down a 1:35.731s to jump to the top of the time-sheets with an outstanding effort, but he was not ready to settle just yet.

The Bostik Audi RS3 driver went even quicker, knocking a further tenth off his lap time with a 1:35.670s to secure pole position for Race 1.

King in the MPC Moutai Audi RS3 moved up to second position late in the session, ending up 0.279s off Mostert’s strong effort in a one-two for the German brand.

Holdsworth’s initial benchmark in the Ashley Seward Motorsport Alfa Romeo Giulietta held on for third, while Michael Caruso made a late improvement to fourth position at the wheel of his Valvoline Racing GRM Alfa.

A solid run for the Burson Auto Parts Racing Peugeot 308 TCR of Ben Bargwanna will see him start from fifth position.

Race 1 is scheduled to see the green flag at 14:25 AEDT.
