Wyndham Offers Reconnection and Recovery Grants

Wyndham City has expanded the Community Grants Program to support COVID-19 community recovery.

Non-profit organisations, local sports clubs and community groups can now apply for grants of up to $5,000 for Community Projects that start after 1 July 2021 and are completed within one year (pandemic circumstances permitting).

Wyndham City Mayor and Healthy City Portfolio holder Cr Adele Hegedich said grants will be awarded for the best project proposals that align with Council’s strategic priorities and meet the relevant grant category’s funding criteria.

“As we do not know what the future holds and how long we will be living the new COVID normal, online activities and those planned to include physical distancing and crowd/group limitation provisions are strongly encouraged,” Cr Hegedich said.

“All successful recipients will also be required to follow State Government laws and regulations including the Chief Health Officer’s guidelines and advice around the management of COVID-19 pandemic mitigations.”

Cr Hegedich also added that the projects to come from this grant will contribute to a sense of community identity, inclusion and connectedness between Wyndham residents.

“After experiencing the hardships of 2020, we know these community projects will help build a resilient community that supports good mental health and emotional wellbeing,” she said.

“Other outcomes we are expecting from these grants is people having increased networks and feeling supported by family, friends and neighbours.”

Applications open on Wednesday 10 February and close Monday 15 March at 3pm.

Examples of Typical projects:

  • Community health and wellbeing responses like relief/food security, staff/volunteer training to deliver knowledge to the community, a podcast series for mental health wellness or family relationship management etc.
  • Online/social distanced/outdoor cultural and creative workshops, events, festival and performances
  • Outdoor activities that educate, tell histories and/or contribute to a sustainable future
  • Initiatives that promote social connections and inclusion
