Sim City needed for Actual Planning
Driving to work this morning, couldn’t help but think that years of poor planning, as forced upon us by the State Government, has led to this backlog of work, pain, and delay after delay.
I am sure we will appreciate the effort in the future, although the lack of local job investment is still worrying. I am still of the view this is the one area that will reduce our time on roads. After all, around 70% of us are all going out of town to work.
The blank slate nature of greenfield development, a big empty canvas, really means that this backlog was preventable (Just think of the Palmers Road series of reworks). Thanks to forecast ID, we can anticipate where people will be, what ages they will be, and what needs they will have.
Given Council is given the joystick (decision making) to a plane (precinct planning) long after takeoff (State Government development), its not fair to expect the council, us Ratepayers, to carry the load. If council was in control, I’d expect it to be accountable. But we know that isn’t the situation at all.
So to encourage some forward thinking, to ensure that planning is done effectively with NEEDS front and centre, I do feel we need to see the political class pick up Simcity as a crash course (which can be found here) – https://www.ea.com/games/simcity/simcity
